Great vintages like 2016 are a blessing for bargain hunters. Quality was high across the board and most properties made some of their best wine in the past decade. One doesn’t need to buy a cru classé to enjoy amazing wines that will age well. Even generic Bordeaux are balanced and the Merlot-based reds from Côtes de Bordeaux are juicy and delicious. There is plenty to choose from in this vintage and I can easily list over 30 great value wines priced at 35 Euros or less (for the 2015 vintage). However, I limit my favorites below to the top 10:

1. Château Desmirail 2016

The nose is incredibly seductive, powerful, floral and glorious! The palate is silky, refined and there is focused precision in the flavors. Filled with layers of detailed, precise red berry flavors, spices and roses, this is a truly seductive wine. Bravo to the Desmirail team for making such a gorgeous Margaux!

Beautifully perfumed Angludet with a light touch, gentle extraction and a lightness on the palate despite the firm tannins and good concentration of flavors. Layers of violets and red berry fruits explode on the palate and the freshness comes through in the lifted character of the flavors. The finish is fairly long and persistent.
