Vinexpo officially opened on 19th June, a gorgeous and warm Sunday in Bordeaux. The festivities however, began the evening before at Château Bouscaut where the Crus Classés de Graves hosted a tasting an dinner for journalists and the trade from around the world.

The tasting of Graves wines, mostly 2009 whites and 2008 reds, kicked off a decadent evening. Jeannie confirmed her appreciation for the 2008 Bordeaux reds and reports that these wines are filled with juicy fruit and fresh acidity. Jeannie’s favourite wines of the night were 1995 La Mission Haut Brion, 1990 Olivier Rouge, 1998 La Tour Haut Brion and 2005 Chateau Climens.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Vinexpo and more than ever this year’s focus revolves around Asia. A large number of Asian visitors mostly from China, Hong Kong and Japan pre-registered for the event. Walking along the aisles of Vinexpo, Putonghua can be heard almost as often as English or French.
