Fun food and wine classes for summer

Wine is a puzzling business – even for the experts. If you’re having trouble tasting the plums in your merlot, don’t worry, as there is plenty of classes available this year to help master your palate.

This month Hong Kong restaurant FINDS is featuring ‘Uncorked!’, a three session workshop geared to making wine ‘fun, accessible and unpretentious’. The sessions start with sparkling wines and champagne, move to matching wine with seafood and end with desserts and sweet wines. The first session starts on the 22nd of July. Email [email protected] or call +852 2123 1558 to reserve your seat.

For something further afield, follow wine expert Wilson Kwok (once knighted by the French), as he traipses through the vines of Bordeaux. For a lavish adventure you can take the eight day tour which includes lunch and visits to Saint Emilion, Domaine de Chevalier and Smith Haut-Lafitte…to name a few. Brush up on your Old World knowledge and enjoy the wines in their rustic environment.Tours leave on September 14 from Hong Kong.

If you’re a sweet tooth but wine isn’t your thing, try Nobu Hong Kong for a summer dessert-making class. Spend a Saturday learning how to make traditional Japanese Mochi desserts – a Nobu signature sweet. Use your techniques to whip up yuzu jam and mochi stuffed with red bean paste next time your friends come around. To sweeten the deal, this class includes a lunch with unlimited sake and a Nobu apron for you to take home. The cooking class is on Saturday July 24, 2010from 10:30am till 1:30pm and can only take a maximum of eight people.

Finally if you are taking a more philanthropic approach to dining this year, join the World Wine Tour 2010. Currently in Canada, these travelling humanitarians collect wine to raise money for the Lao Rehabilitation Foundation.Click here to see where they are off to next.
